Lake Martin is a man-made lake with a hydro-electric dam completed in 1929 and operated by Alabama Power. The lake has over 40,000 acres of clear, deep, clean water and more than 880 miles of shoreline. Perhaps 35% of the shoreline has been developed – lots of wilderness with hills, rocks, trees, bald eagles, fox, coyote, deer, turkey, beaver, muskrats – wildlife; and all kinds of property to choose from – tiny old cabins, new mansions, and everything in between.
